Assassination attempt on Trump Former President Trump was rushed off the stage by the Secret Service at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, after gunshots rang out on Saturday, leaving two attendees hurt and the alleged shooter dead. Trump makes statements on TruthSocial.com

Published on July 13, 2024 Author:lilddp

The former president had just begun to fire up the crowd when as many as five shots were heard, and he went down, surrounded by Secret Service agents. "And then the worst president in the history of our country took over. And look what happened to our country. Probably 20 million people [came in illegally]. And, you know, that's a little bit old, that chart... that chart's a couple of months old. And if you want to really see something that sad, take a look at what happened over..." Trump said before gunfire rang out. As they led him away, with what appeared to be blood on his cheek and his right ear, he raised his arms defiantly. Trump was heard telling his security team, "let me get my shoes," as they brought him to his feet and hustled him off-stage. Donald Trump Jr. confirmed to Fox News Digital that his father is in "great spirits" as he remains under observation, saying that the presumptive Republican nominee is "never stop fighting to save America." "I just spoke to my father on the phone, and he is in great spirits," Trump Jr. said. "He will never stop fighting to save America, no matter what the radical left throws at him." The frantic scene captured rally-goers racing out after shots rang out. The shooter is dead and two other rally-goers are dead, a law enforcement source told Fox News' Jacqui Heinrich. In a statement, the Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said that they have "implemented protective measures." "An incident occurred the evening of July 13 at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania," Guglielmi "The Secret Service has implemented protective measures and the former President is safe. This is now an active Secret Service investigation and further information will be released when available." In a statement, Trump's communication director, Steven Cheung, said that the former president "is fine." "President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act," Cheung said. "He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility." In a statement, President Biden said that he has been briefed on the incident and is "praying for him and his family." "I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania. I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information," Biden said. Biden added that there was "no place for this kind of violence in America." "Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety," he said. "There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it."

UPDATE 05/07/2024 3:00PM CURRENTLY WAITING FOR PROOF, TAKE WITH A GRAIN OF SALT UNTIL THEN @Drake News | @Kendrick Lamar News From an insider (waiting on proof in the form of documents, will update whenever I receive it): pgLang (Kendrick) and XO (the Weeknd), as of yesterday, were asked by Universal Music Group (UMG) to end the beef with OVO (Drake). Kendrick apparently isn't budging at all, but UMG is pressing hard on their request to squash the beef.

UNPROVEN THEORY 11:00AM from viral tweet posted on X which is now deleted : I got tea ☕️- the shooting has nothing to do with Kendrick, The Weeknd’s manager cash xo mansion was shot at last week by ovo and a security guard ended up getting shot, and The Weeknd’s people-xo reportedly spent the block at drake’s mansion.

UMG also had a Zoom meeting with all of the parties involved, and they want Kendrick, either directly or said through pgLang, to post a statement clarifying that Drake isn't a pedophile if Kendrick agrees to end the beef. • Drake is losing the beef in UMG's eyes, so from UMG's perspective: The sooner that this beef ends, the better. • The pedophilia accusations directed at Drake are costing UMG, Nike, and other parties "a lot of money".

Drakes house surrounded by caution tape due to drive by shooting

October 2023: J. Cole collaborates with Drake on 'First Person Shooter' In October 2023, Drake collaborated with fellow rapper J.Cole on a track called "First Person Shooter." J. Cole brags about his rapping prowess on the track, referring to himself, Drake and Lamar as the "Big Three," singling himself out as Muhammad Ali, or in other words, the greatest of all. For his part, Drake boasted about his own popularity as a music star, comparing himself to Michael Jackson..

March 2024: Lamar blasts Drake and J.Cole on 'Like That' In March 2024, Lamar responded to "First Person Shooter" by blasting Drake and J.Cole in guest verses on Metro Boomin and Future's collaborative track “Like That," which rose to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Lamar laughed off the idea of a "Big 3," insisting there was only a "Big Me," and then ridiculed Drake for likening himself to Michael Jackson by insisting he would be Prince in the scenario. "Prince outlived Mike Jack," he rapped.

April 19, 2024: Drake calls Lamar a 'pipsqueak' on 'Push Ups' A fired-up Drake blasted back at Lamar the following month with the diss track "Push Ups," on which he addressed the diminutive rapper as “pipsqueak" and asks him, "How the f--- you big steppin’ with a size-seven men’s on?" Drake also put down his old rival's music collaborations with pop artists. "Maroon 5 need a verse, you better make it witty/ Then we need a verse for the Swifties," he raps. "Push Ups" notably sampled beats from The Notorious B.I.G.’s 1997 track “What’s Beef?”

April 30, 2024: Lamar releases 'Euphoria' On April 30, Lamar released a furious six-minute track called "Euphoria," continuing his rift with Drake, who just happens to have served as an executive producer the TV series “Euphoria,” according to IMDB. Lamar, who’s won a Pulitzer Prize for his music, bashes the more commercially successful Drake on the track, rapping, “I make music that electrify ’em, you make music that pacify ’em.”

May 3, 2024: Lamar follows up with '6:16 in LA' Days later, Lamar released “6:16 in LA,” on his Instagram page. The song's title pokes fun at Drake’s time-and-location-themed songs, such as“6PM in New York," "9AM in Dallas,” and “4PM in Calabasas." Lamar name-checks OVO, the independent music label owned by Drake, on the song. "Have you ever thought that OVO was working for me?/ Fake bully, I hate bullies/ You must be a terrible person/ Everyone inside your team is whispering that you deserve it," he raps as he continues to imply that key insiders at OVO are Team Lamar. This song notably samples Al Green's “What a Wonderful Thing Love Is," which the soul singer seeming acknowledged by tweeting out his original track on the same day of Lamar's track.

May 4, 2024: Drake responds with third diss track, 'Family Matters' Drake responded to Lamar’s “6:16 in LA” diss track with an record called “Family Matters.” In his nearly 8 minute diss, which was accompanied by a music video that showed New Ho King Chinese restaurant Kendrick referenced on “Euphoria,” Drake takes shots at Kendrick’s relationship with his fiancée Whitney Alford, alleging abuse and infidelity. “You the Black messiah wifing up a mixed queen/ And hit vanilla cream to help out with your self-esteem/ On some Bobby sh—, I wanna know what Whitney need,” he spits, before later adding, “When you put your hands on your girl, is it self-defense ’cause she’s bigger than you?” Drake also took verbal shots at other rappers he’s reportedly beefing with including, A$AP Rocky, The Weeknd, Metro Boomin, Future and Rick Ross.

May 4, 2024: Kendrick Lamar responds to Drake with scathing diss, 'Meet the Grahams' Soon after Drake’s “Family Matters” arrived, Kendrick Lamar returned with a blistering response called “Meet the Grahams.” In the 6 and a half minute track, Lamar seemingly calls out Drake for being a deadbeat dad and alleges he’s hiding another child, a daughter, from the world. “You lied about your son, you lied about your daughter, huh, you lied about them other kids that’s out there hoping that you come,” he raps. He also takes shots at Drake’s family, alleged alcohol abuse, a gambling addiction and that the Toronto rapper used Ozempic for weight loss and had cosmetic surgery. “Get some discipline, don’t cut them corners like your daddy did. F--- what Ozempic did. Don’t pay to play with them Brazilians, get a gym membership,” he raps.

May 4, 2024: Kendrick Lamar releases another song a few hours later called ' with 'Not Like Us' Kendrick Lamar didn't wait for Drake to respond to his third diss track, "Meet the Grahams," opting to release a fourth targeted diss track at Drake with "Not Like Us.' The track, which is currently the No. 1 trending video on YouTube is a four and a half minute verbal attack on the Toronto rapper, taking aim at his seemingly predilection for young women and his recent legal drama with Tupac's estate after a releasing his “Taylor Made Freestyle” diss track at Lamar, which featured an AI-generated Tupac voice. On the track, Kendrick raps, “Say, Drake, I hear you like ‘em young / You better not ever go to cell block one,” and later adds, “Certified Lover Boy? Certified pedophiles,” a nod to Drake’s 2021 album, “Certified Lover Boy” that seemingly accuses the rapper of pedophilia. Later in the song, which also challenges Drake's street credibility and reputation, Kendrick also takes Drake to task about his “Taylor Made Freestyle” diss track, rapping, "You think the Bay gon’ let you disrespect Pac, n----? I think that Oakland show gon’ be your last stop, n----.” At the time of publication, Drake has yet to release a response to Kendrick latest diss track.

Spotify Starts Charging Non-Premium Listeners for Lyrics

Published on May 05, 2024 Author:lilddp

Now, Spotify is starting to charge for that curiosity, telling some users that they'll have to pay for a subscription plan in order to regularly read lyrics while jamming out.

The streaming giant hasn't made an official announcement, but users across the internet have started posting screenshots from their Spotify accounts informing them of a new monthly limit on accessing song lyrics, effectively making lyrics a paid feature.

"Enjoy lyrics on Spotify Premium," one purported screenshot displayed, as reported by Android Authority. "Every time you tap 'Show lyrics', it will count towards your limit," another posted by Dexerto said.

Spotify's move to push users toward paying for a premium subscription is the latest example of how streaming giants are raising prices and squeezing customers. TV, music and movie streaming companies have been regularly raising prices for the past couple years, while at the same time clamping down on password sharing. Google's YouTube, meanwhile, has also begun cracking down on ad-blocking apps, pointing upset users toward its ad-free $14 per-month subscription.

Unlike other streaming services, Spotify does offer a free tier subsidized by advertising. Free users are limited to shuffled playlists and few skips per hour, effectively creating a tech-industry equivalent of a radio station.

Spotify also reported around $211 million in net profits, following a series of layoffs that cut 2,300 employees from its staff last year.

we will limit the application process to 400 investors due to the low reply rate and low likelyhood of funding.

ChatGPT-maker OpenAI fires CEO Sam Altman, the face of the AI boom, for lack of candor with company

Published on November 21, 2023 Author:lilddp

The CEO of one of the world’s most talked about tech companies has been sacked, rehired, and employed elsewhere in less than a week.

While the precise details remain unclear surrounding the dismissal of Sam Altman, who steered the $90bn (£71.7bn) company behind ChatGPT, what can businesses learn from the tech giant’s mis-footings and failures?

What happened? On the back of the dismissal, an OpenAI blog post said Altman “was not consistently candid in his communications” with the board.

Laura Freebairn-Smith, author of Abundance Leaders believes “the seeds of this disruption might have been sown when the company was founded as a nonprofit.”

A nonprofit board overseeing a “rapidly growing, venture capital-funded for-profit entity” may have created a “dynamic tension between purpose and profit,” according to Freebairn-Smith. Regardless of the finer details, OpenAI’s ongoing saga offers lessons on how not to manage a leadership change.

While clear communication drives company growth, problems arise when investors and staff feel out of the loop. Freebairn-Smith goes on to advise if there are changes in-house, a “thought-out communication plan” is a must. Moving too swiftly, without adequate “digestion time” and “a step-by-step rollout plan,” leads to the kind of chaos we are reading about, she warns.

Powerful leadership has a “strong emphasis on transparency” and developing a “who needs to know what in what sequence?” plan will minimise problems, according to Freebairn-Smith. Whatever happens over the next few weeks, OpenAI is in a worse place now than it was and serves as a cautionary tale to other companies on the brink of organisational change.

Right person, right seat To avoid similar mistakes businesses need to ensure the right people are in the right job.

Sam Altman “wasn’t incompetent,” according to Cliff Ettridge, Director at branding agency The Team, “but he might not have been a CEO. He was an inspirational leader. He was a leader in thinking when it came to AI. That should have been his role and the board missed this.” Ettridge references his workplace in the 1990s – The Body Shop – as a company that got it right.

Anita Roddick was the inspirational leader who drove the ethics, purpose, and invention of the company, but Ettridge points out that she wasn’t in charge of the day to day running of the business. That was someone else’s job. The board knew Anita’s strengths and allowed her to play the role she wanted, and The Body Shop needed.

“OpenAI missed the role that Sam Altman could play. Maybe he did too,” says Ettridge. For better business results, the right people must be in the right place.

Manage employee backlash Over 700 ChatGPT employees have signed an open letter threatening to quit unless its board resign. The potential mass exodus of ChatGPT employees underscores the importance of stakeholder engagement in times of change.

When making changes in business, Martin Gutmann PhD, Professor at the Lucerne School of Business, and the author of The Unseen Leader offers advice, saying staff “don’t like to be surprised, especially not when it comes to major organisational changes.”

Acknowledging there are times when things must happen fast, Gutmann maintains that it is crucial to speak to key stakeholders before a major change becomes public: “If investors or key employees hear about a major change through the rumour mill or the newspapers first, they will at best be confused and at worst resentful,” he warns.

Being responsible to different people with varying needs and priorities is challenging. According to Gutmann, there is no magic formula for managing leadership changes correctly, but it helps to “build up credibility and good faith through a track-record of integrity and empathy.”

Remain independent For governance purposes, an autonomous Chair is a must, but David Pattison, Chairman and author of The Money Train notes the Chair was an executive in OpenAI and therefore “unlikely to have an independent view.”

He continues, “How can a non-profit holding company have a for-profit business sitting in it, with the board walking that tightrope of good governance and fair decision-making?

“It can’t…it’s a ridiculous structure.”

With further details still coming to light, it’s likely that some litigation from the shareholders will follow soon, according to Pattison. While smaller businesses won’t have such complex structures, having an organised line of command is universally advantageous. No matter what size the company, keep investors informed so they don’t hear news about your company on social media or second-hand.

Control change

Adding to the chaos, Microsoft, a $13bn (£10.3bn) investor in OpenAI, stood to gain and lose from this leadership transfer. The tech giant has hired OpenAI co-founders Altman and Brockman to head up a “new advanced AI research team” and are “committed to our partnership with OpenAI,” according to Satya Nadella, CEO at Microsoft.

The abrupt leadership changes at OpenAI highlight valuable lessons for businesses navigating organisational shifts.

Managing change in an SME is no small undertaking – but it’s one that (in contrast to big corporations like OpenAI) a business owner is likely to be doing on his or her own, with no experts, no dedicated departments, and no funds for outside consultants.

Transparent communication, strategic foresight and thoughtful execution are indispensable in steering organisations of any size through the complex currents of change.

Microsoft had not responded to a request for comment at the time of publication and OpenAI declined to comment.

Binance Founder Changpeng Zhao Steps Down, Pleads Guilty | Binance to pay billions in US in money laundering case, CEO resigns

Published on November 21, 2023 Author:lilddp

Binance chief executive Changpeng Zhao pleaded guilty Tuesday to US money laundering charges, in a deal that will see the cryptocurrency exchange he founded pay over $4 billion in penalties.

"Binance became the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange in part because of the crimes it committed –- now it is paying one of the largest corporate penalties in US history," Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement.

Binance's guilty plea is part of coordinated action including with the Treasury Department's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), the Department of Justice said. Zhao pleaded guilty to failing to maintain an effective anti-money laundering program, the Department of Justice said, and he has resigned from his position of CEO.

Zhao, who lives abroad, entered his plea in person in the United States, added Garland. Binance's agreements with the Treasury Department's agencies include a civil money penalty of $3.4 billion and a $968 million penalty involving OFAC. These mark the agencies' largest settlements in history.

"Binance turned a blind eye to its legal obligations in the pursuit of profit," Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in a statement. "Its willful failures allowed money to flow to terrorists, cybercriminals and child abusers through its platform." She noted Binance "deliberately undermined its own sanctions monitoring controls," allowing over 1.5 million virtual currency trades violating US sanctions, and failed to report suspicious transactions. Yellen said the penalties, and a five-year monitorship imposed on Binance, mark a "milestone for the virtual currency industry." - Unprecedented - The monitorship is unprecedented in the virtual currency space, a US Treasury official told journalists, speaking on condition of anonymity, comparing it to the oversight structure imposed on banks over a decade ago. Moving forward, Binance must file suspicious activity reports required by law, on top of reviewing past transactions to report such activity to authorities, Garland said. "This will advance our criminal investigations into malicious cyber activity and terrorism fundraising, including the use of cryptocurrency exchanges to support groups such as Hamas," he added.

Binance was created in 2017 and cornered much of the crypto-trading market, turning Zhao into a billionaire. Binance runs crypto exchanges and provides other services across the world, but it has taken a severe hit since crypto markets collapsed and regulators began probing the legality of its business. Zhao -- often seen as the arch-rival of disgraced FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried -- is expected to face sentencing at a later time. With the deal, Zhao is barred from future involvement operating Binance's business. - 'Misguided decisions' - In a statement, Binance conceded that it "made misguided decisions along the way" as it grew rapidly in an industry that was in the "early stages of regulation." "Today, Binance takes responsibility for this past chapter," it said. The company added that it did not initially have adequate compliance controls, saying that it has been working to restructure. Its former global head of regional markets, Richard Teng, will succeed Zhao as CEO. In a separate social media announcement, Zhao said: "I made mistakes, and I must take responsibility." The latest deal does not include the company's entanglements with the Securities and Exchange Commission, another regulator, which pressed a raft of charges against Binance in June, saying it allowed US residents to trade even when it was not registered in the country as a securities exchange. The SEC also alleges the firm misused customer funds.

While Binance was founded in China, Zhao moved its operations to other locations internationally after a crackdown on the crypto sector by Beijing. The volatile industry surged in 2021 with a range of complex products and celebrity endorsements propelling it to a valuation in excess of $3 trillion last year. But a series of scandals, including the collapse of the FTX exchange and criminal charges for its executives, saw public confidence evaporate and investors pull their money out. This policy has just stolen Millions if not Billions of dollars from small artists. @audiostreamonline was created to pay creators a livable fair wage.

@lil.ddp x @e.mogs understood early on these streaming services hold all the power. As seen above they won’t pay a cent until a track hits 1k streams.

In reality Spotify spent 100s of Millions of Dollars on failed podcast groups that made them negative in terms of ROI. They then take it out on the consumer/artist by raising subscription prices and lowering wages by the tactic above.

Bitcoin Suddenly Leaps To $30,000 Following Refuted IShares Spot ETF Approval Report

Published on October 16, 2023 Author:lilddp

Cryptocurrency markets experienced a sudden surge in bitcoin prices following a now-debunked report on a bitcoin ETF approval by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The erroneous report initially propelled bitcoin's value to the $30K mark. However, the momentum was short-lived as the digital currency's price soon plummeted to around $28K, stirring volatility within the market. The now-deleted X post prompting this reaction came from the cryptocurrency news site Cointelegraph. It claimed that BlackRock'sBLK +1.2% iShares division, dedicated to exchange-traded funds, had secured the SEC's approval for a pioneering bitcoin spot ETF. The news spread like wildfire, triggering the market reaction that pushed bitcoin prices to $30K within the hour.

The news quickly gained traction and was further propagated by coverage appearing in Reuters, among other outlets. This sequence of events led to a significant market reaction, prompting bitcoin's price to briefly soar to the $30K mark. However, official confirmations from both the SEC and Nasdaq refuted these claims. BlackRock itself issued a statement clarifying that their proposed bitcoin spot ETF was still under review by the SEC, as reported by Blockworks. As this morning’s events unfolded, it catalyzed a sharp rise in liquidations, nearing a staggering $100 million.

The Impact Of A Bitcoin Spot ETF Approval

In June, BlackRock's iShares division, a giant in the fund management sector, submitted documents to the SEC proposing the establishment of a bitcoin spot ETF. As detailed in the submission, the proposed entity, the iShares Bitcoin Trust, plans to primarily hold bitcoin via a custodian representing the trust. The documents designate the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase as the expected custodian.

The approval of a bitcoin spot ETF by the SEC could significantly augment mainstream acceptance of bitcoin investing, increasing its accessibility to a broader investor base. While its status is still pending, BlackRock's decision to file for a bitcoin spot ETF marks a critical juncture in the evolution of the cryptocurrency market. When the SEC does make its decision, it will undoubtedly have far-reaching implications for the market and could potentially shape the future of cryptocurrency investments. The recent bitcoin price surge and subsequent fall, triggered by the now-debunked report, underscore the potential volatility in the cryptocurrency market. While the incident has highlighted the market's sensitivity to news about ETF advancements, it also serves as a reminder of the ongoing anticipation and speculation surrounding the approval of a bitcoin spot ETF. As the SEC continues its review process, all eyes will be on this potentially game-changing development in the cryptocurrency market.

Israel at war with Hamas after surprise attacks, around 900 Israelis dead

Published on October 9, 2023 Author:lilddp

More than 1,500 people have been killed since the Hamas militant group launched a surprise assault on Israel from Gaza early Saturday, leading Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to declare "we are at war." An Israeli embassy spokesperson said Monday the death toll has risen to at least 900 Israelis, most of them civilians. Another 2,150 were reported wounded. More than 250 of the dead were Israelis who came under attack at the Supernova music festival near the border with Gaza when militants opened fire on the crowd. Israeli officials also say Hamas fighters captured more than 100 hostages, including women, children and elderly people, who were apparently taken into Gaza as captives. At least 11 U.S. citizens are among the dead, the White House confirmed Monday, while an unknown number of Americans remain missing. Meanwhile, at least 687 Palestinians have been killed in Israel's retaliatory airstrikes, including 140 children, and more than 3,700 people were wounded, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. The coordinated, multi-front attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian territory controlled by Hamas, came almost 50 years to the day since the 1973 Yom Kippur War, and marked a dramatic escalation in the longstanding Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

SEC to compel Elon Musk’s testimony in Twitter stock purchase probe

Published on October 5, 2023 Author:lilddp

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission will try to force Elon Musk to testify over his Twitter stock purchases. The federal agency charged with regulating securities markets is currently investigating Musk for allegedly violating securities laws when he bought Twitter shares before buying the social media platform, which he has since renamed X.

Buying Twitter stock before acquiring the company could mean Musk was guilty of insider trading, market manipulation or even violation for fair market disclosure.

The SEC said on Thursday that Musk failed to appear to testify last month as requested. According to a filing by the agency in federal court in San Francisco, first spotted by Bloomberg, the agency is auditing Musk’s statements and disclosures about the stock transactions.

Since the SEC began its probe in April 2022, Musk has sent hundreds of documents and testified twice in July 2022, according to the filing. The investigation is ongoing and nonpublic.

The agency said Musk agreed to an interview with the SEC last month in San Francisco, but two days before the scheduled September 15 meeting, the billionaire raised objections, saying San Francisco wasn’t a good location for it. He has claimed that San Francisco jurors dislike him after a questionnaire sent out to 200 prospective jurors came back with majority negative opinions of Musk.

The SEC suggested moving the interview to Fort Worth, Texas, where Musk resides, but the agency says he refused to meet at all.

This isn’t Musk’s first tussle with the SEC. Famously, the Tesla CEO has been ordered to have a lawyer review his Tesla-related tweets after Musk tweeted in 2018 that he had “funding secured” to take Tesla private for $420 per share and that investor support for the deal was confirmed. Tesla’s share price fluctuated in the weeks that followed, which prompted an SEC investigation into whether Musk had committed securities fraud.

The SEC is also investigating Musk and Tesla over their claims regarding Tesla vehicles’ “full self-driving” capabilities, as well as Tesla’s use of company funds to build Musk a “glass house.“

SBF’s trial has started, this is how he and FTX got here

Published on October 3, 2023 Author:lilddp

The highly anticipated criminal trial for Sam Bankman-Fried, former CEO of bankrupt crypto exchange FTX, started Tuesday to determine whether he’s guilty of seven counts of fraud and conspiracy. And as one former federal prosecutor put it: “The odds seem to be stacked against him at this point.” The 31-year-old co-founded FTX in 2019; within a few years the once third-largest crypto exchange’s valuation hit $32 billion at its peak. It’s now trying to claw back any funds to distribute to creditors. But how did the once third-largest crypto exchange get here? Before FTX, Bankman-Fried co-founded crypto-trading firm Alameda Research in 2017. He co-founded FTX in 2019 as a complement to Alameda, to help bring in revenue and liquidity for the trading arm. Within two years, more than 80 investors provided about $2 billion in capital to FTX, helping Bankman-Fried propel his vision into a reality. In January 2022, the company raised $400 million in a Series C round, boosting its valuation to $32 billion. That was its last round of public funding. The company gained somewhat mainstream recognition with branding deals and partnerships. For example, in 2021 it bought the naming rights for the Miami Heat’s home arena. FTX also got its name branded on Major League Baseball umpires’ polos, and it partnered with celebrities like Tom Brady and his ex-wife, Gisele Bündchen, as well as Steph Curry, Shaquille O’Neal and Naomi Osaka, among others. He also had close ties to U.S. regulators and government officials, many of whom he donated to.

FTX’s collapse

Concerns surrounding FTX’s liquidity grew after CoinDesk published a copy of Alameda’s balance sheet, showing the firm held $14.6 billion in assets and $8 billion in liabilities as of June 30, 2022. But there was a problem: The report showed Alameda’s largest asset was $3.66 billion of “unlocked FTT” and $2.16 billion of “FTT collateral.” FTT was the token behind FTX. The balance sheet showed that the $5.82 billion in FTT tokens that Alameda owned was 193% higher than the total FTT market cap, which was about $3 billion at the time. That means it purported to have more FTT tokens on its balance sheet than what existed in the world. Around the same time it was exposed, the world’s largest crypto exchange, Binance, started pulling out its remaining $2.1 billion equivalent of cash in BUSD and FTT. (It had an equity position in FTX from 2019 to 2021.) This essentially triggered a bank run on FTX. FTX and Alameda filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the U.S. mid-November 2022. Bankman-Fried resigned, and John J. Ray III, the Enron turnaround veteran, was appointed its new CEO. Bankman-Fried, however, maintained his innocence. At The New York Times’ DealBook Summit, he appeared virtually from the Bahamas, saying “I didn’t ever try to commit fraud on anyone; I was shocked by what happened this month.” In a published DM exchange with a Vox reporter, he said he regretted filing for bankruptcy and thought that “regulators make everything worse.”

SBF arrested

Bankman-Fried was arrested in December 2022 in the Bahamas, where FTX was based. He was then extradited to the U.S. to face a number of criminal charges. He was released on a $250 million bail bond, and he remained under house arrest at his parents’ home in Palo Alto. This was revoked in August after he was accused of intimidating Alameda’s former CEO, Caroline Ellison, by leaking her private diary. Ray represented the company during a House Financial Services Committee hearing regarding FTX. When asked whether the firm had significant risk management systems, Ray said at the time that “there were virtually no internal controls and no separateness whatsoever” and added that he did not “trust a single piece of paper” in the exchange’s organization. U.S. Attorney Damian Williams called Bankman-Fried’s alleged crimes “one of the biggest financial frauds in American history,” in a press conference.

The aftermathd

FTX co-founder and former CTO Gary Wang, and Alameda Research’s former CEO, Caroline Ellison, both pleaded guilty in December 2022 to federal criminal charges in relation to the FTX collapse. They’re also facing civil penalties from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) alongside the criminal charges. Wang and Ellison plan to cooperate with prosecutors and will be major witnesses in the trial, given their close ties to Bankman-Fried, FTX and Alameda. In January, Bankman-Fried pleaded not guilty to all counts, which include wire fraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering and conspiracy to misuse customer funds. He could face up to 115 years in jail if convicted on all charges. The crypto industry as a whole suffered from FTX’s collapse, which was the first of many. BlockFi filed for Chapter 11 in November 2022, as did Genesis Global Trading in January.

Where we are today

Bankman-Fried will be represented by Cohen & Gresser, and Mark Cohen, a high-profile defense attorney and former federal prosecutor, will be the lead attorney. If that name sounds familiar, it might be because he also represented Ghislaine Maxwell in her sex trafficking trial related to Jeffrey Epstein. He requested an early release for Bankman-Fried but was denied. With the trial beginning, we’re witnessing how FTX’s story ends. But what’s on our mind is what happens to the investors and creditors affected by the collapse? And what happens to the billions in crypto assets tied up in legal proceedings?

Hugh Jackman Snaps Selfie With Taylor Swift, Ryan Reynolds & Blake Lively at Chiefs-Jets Game

Published on October 1, 2023 Author:lilddp

A key part of Taylor Swift’s image during the original 1989 album campaign involved her “squad” of famous friends, so it’s only right that she bring that back as she gears up for the release of 1989 (Taylor’s Version) — albeit in a configuration that more closely reflects where she’s at in her life right now. On Sunday (Oct. 1), the “Cruel Summer” singer was spotted a few members of the squad during the showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and the New York Jets at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium — and one of them was none other than Hugh Jackman.
In Swift’s second NFL appearance to show some support for her rumored new boo — Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce — she was joined by A Simple Favor actress Blake Lively, Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds and Academy Award nominee and Tony winner Hugh Jackman in a suite. The Wolverine star — who made his Billboard Hot 100 debut with “The Greatest Show” from his 2017 film The Greatest Showman — shared a cute selfie of the four megastars to his Instagram Stories early Monday morning (Oct. 2), simply tagging his three fellow attendees. In the snap, the four are gathered close and smiling — though Swift has an “oh!” expression on her face — with the field below them in the background.

Other stars spotted with Swift in the suite as she cheered on Kelce to the Chiefs’ 23-20 victory over the Jets included Sophie Turner, who is in the midst of a divorce from Joe Jonas, and Brittany Mahomes, who is married to Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The pop superstar was also spotted hugging Sabrina Carpenter as she entered the stadium. The week before, on Sept. 24, the “August” singer rooted on Kelce alongside his mother, Donna, as the Chiefs annihilated the Chicago Bears 41-10. The rumored pair left Arrowhead Stadium together in the NFL star’s convertible after the game.
